Sparkpad, Scala partner for 'all-in-one' digital signage display

Sparkpad, the platform that enables companies to easily create and deploy their own line of Internet-enabled digital display products, and Scala, a global provider of digital signage and advertising management solutions, today announced the release of Sparkpad’s new 15-inch digital media player that can be remotely programmed using SignChannel, Scala’s online self-service digital signage service.

The new “all-in-one” device combines a large color LCD screen and Wi-Fi into a sleek, free-standing Internet-ready appliance, according to the announcement. Customers can create and manage content on the display — including their own images and HD video — from the Web, using SignChannel’s online service.

“Sparkpad’s new programmable LCD display is a highly anticipated addition to the lineup of digital signage players compatible with SignChannel,” said Tom Wetmore, general manager of SignChannel, in the announcement. “With its vibrant 15-inch color screen, attractive enclosure, and easy user interface, Sparkpad’s display offers an excellent new solution to SignChannel users looking for an integrated, large screen player.”

SignChannel is Scala’s award-winning digital signage service targeted primarily at the small and medium business market. Scala markets SignChannel as digital signage “for the rest of us” because of its ease of use, rich content and low cost. SignChannel users are allowed to create their own content, upload photos and videos, and access hundreds of dynamically updated commercial content channels including weather, news, sports, stock quotes and more.

Together, Sparkpad’s low-cost displays and SignChannel’s affordable subscription service decrease the total cost of ownership for a digital signage network, with no additional hardware or service plans to buy, according to the companies. Anyone who can connect a device to a Wi-Fi network and use the Web can be up and running in minutes: Customers simply connect their displays to the Internet and then use any Web browser to assign content to each display.

“Our partnership with SignChannel now makes it even easier for companies who want to deploy a self-serve digital signage network using a larger screen size,” Sparkpad CEO Drew Weaver said in the announcement. “With SignChannel’s robust menu of content and Sparkpad’s easy setup screens, companies can deploy their own digital signage network quickly, without the cost and hassles found with other signage platforms.”
