Soccer World Cup spiking demand for 3D live networks

International Datacasting Corp. (IDC) says next month’s 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa is causing an upswing in demand for its 3D live solution.

The most popular sporting event in the world will this year be broadcast in 3D for the first time, and IDC’s Superflex SFX4104 Pro Video with integrated Sensio 3D decoding enables its broadcast into digital cinema-enabled theaters. The company says it is booking new orders from both current IDC 3D live networks and new customers around the world, from Australia, Brazil, Mexico and France.
“We are excited about this group of orders and the growing demand for the high definition, high quality, live 3D theatrical experience,” IDC president and CEO Frederick Godard said. “The FIFA World Cup is having a significant impact on the demand for IDC’s 3D products as service providers rush to prepare for broadcasting all the excitement from South Africa in 3D.”
