Broome Community College, part of the State University of New York system, recently deployed a digital signage network to create an informative network for its students that would also modernize its image, could quickly deliver important information to students and faculty and also function as an emergency notification system. Broome worked with Scala certified partner Imperatives Inc. in Schenectady, N.Y., to design an integrated digital network to meet these requirements.
“Broome Community College’s Department of Information Technology Services was searching for a digital network that could be up and running immediately, and that would provide options for expansion and scalability,” said Jan Metzger, president of Imperatives, in an announcement released yesterday by Scala.
The new network, which went live in November 2010, spans seven LG displays located in five buildings across campus — the cafeteria, business center, library and two classroom buildings. The network communicates relevant student and community information, including upcoming events, job postings, library and help desk hours, registration information and social media.
Along with the LG monitors, Imperatives installed five player systems, one for each building. It also trained college personnel on how to use the new Scala software.
“Our installation, implementation and usage were immediate and seamless,” said Stephen Boyd, A/V services manager at Broome, in the announcement. “The user interface and configuration settings are intuitive and incorporate state-of-the-art design. The digital signage concept and delivery method has made an impressive contribution to our college campus community.”
