NFL says Cowboys can keep their video boards, at least for this year

The punt that hit the Dallas Cowboys’ new Diamond Vision screens isn’t going to be cause for moving or removing the screens — at least not this season.

Associated Press reports that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said no changes will need to be made to the screen layout this season, but the topic might be brought back up for the 2010 season.

On his radio broadcast, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the screens simply aren’t a big issue, because most punters prefer sending returners down the sidelines.

“You can anticipate the ball hitting the board from time to time,” Jones said. “There’s no reason why this can’t be something (for punters) to deal with very similar to the way you’d deal with the wind in your face or with elements; rain, sleet or snow.”
