Javits Center uses digital signage for flight info

NEW YORK —Convention attendees at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City were offered live airline flight information via digital signs from Flyte Systems in the lobby during the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS) in New York City November 10-13, 2007.

The Javits FlyteBoard offers real-time updates at the convention center.

“This was a first for the Javits Center; there was a stream of people clustered around the FlyteBoard checking their departure times before they headed for the airport,” said Frank Freda, director of customer services at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. “I spoke to many attendees who said offering Flyte Systems’ airport travel information was a valuable service in a busy venue like the Javits Center.”

Javits management worked with Flyte Systems, a Chicago-based provider of real-time flight information displays to hotels, convention centers and other facilities, to install the large, high-definition panel in a central lobby area where IH/M&RS attendees verified flight times for all three of the area’s major airports.
“The service was so successful, we are looking into offering the service full time. Flight information for LaGuardia, Newark and JFK International came to the FlyteBoard via the Javits Center’s existing Internet connection. There was no installation hassle, no downtime,” said Freda.
FlyteBoard, developed by Flyte Systems, is a wall, floor or ceiling mounted high-definition, flat panel screen that Javits installed near its concierge desk to present IH/M&RS attendees with ‘glance and go’ convenience for more confident travel planning. Flyte Systems applications can post accurate real-time airline flight arrival and departure information, even give updates on non-FAA issues.
